The Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences is located on the shore of Wuchang South Lake in Wuhan. It is a comprehensive agricultural scientific research institution directly under the Hubei Provincial Government. The history can be traced back to the Nanhu Agricultural Experimental Ground founded by Zhang Zhidong, Governor of Huguang in the late Qing Dynasty. After the Central South Agricultural Science Research Institute, the Huazhong Agricultural Science Research Institute and the Hubei Agricultural Science Research Institute, it became more famous in January 1978.
The academy has 10 research institutes (centers) of grain crops, cash crops, plant protection soil fertilizer, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, fruit tree tea, agricultural product processing and nuclear agriculture technology, agricultural quality standards and testing technology, biopesticides, traditional Chinese medicinal materials and agricultural economics, 9 departments of the academy, as well as logistics service centers, South Lake and silkworm experiments. There are 4 units directly under the station. The research field involves all aspects of agriculture in the province. It is the largest-scale provincial comprehensive agricultural scientific research institution in the province, the quantity and quality of agricultural science and technology resources are at the forefront of the national Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and has a certain impact. After years of development, the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences has created a number of traditional advantages in China or international advanced disciplines, such as germplasm resource utilization, hybrid rice breeding, vegetable breeding, plant protection, biological pesticide research and development, animal epidemic prevention and control, etc., and cultivated alpine vegetables. A number of characteristic disciplines such as sweet potatoes, tea, livestock, silkworm mulberry and traditional Chinese medicinal materials have influence and status in the whole country.
The academy has 151 national, provincial and ministerial science and technology innovation platforms, including 2 national engineering centers, 21 provincial and ministerial key laboratories and scientific observatories, and 28 provincial and ministerial engineering technology research centers. There is a postdoctoral workstation and 61 colleges and enterprises to jointly build R&D centers.
